Should You Use Scents During Your Open House? Here’s, the Pros and Cons….

This summering pot of apples, oranges, and cinnamon on my cooktop makes my home smell like freshly baked apple pie. For an open house this may be a classic strategy, but it’s not always the best idea. While the smell of apple pie can create a warm, inviting atmosphere, it can also feel staged or distract buyers from focusing on the home itself. Some buyers may even question if the scent is being used to mask odors.

A better approach is to ensure the home smells clean and neutral. Open windows for fresh air, and avoid overpowering artificial fragrances. If you want to offer refreshments, setting out store bought cookies or light snacks can still create a welcoming feel without overwhelming buyers with strong scents.
